Training: After completing his post graduation in Anaesthesia from the prestigious Madras Medical College, Chennai in 2001 he has undergone intense training in Anaesthesia, Intensive care and Pain management in the United Kingdom for 6 years and obtained FRCA from the Royal College of Anaesthetists, London in 2008. He has obtained training in various super specialties at the Royal Infirmary- Edinburgh, Southern General hospital-Glasgow and in various hospitals in East Anglia, England. He has also visited Liver units at the Kings College Hospital, London, Addenbrookes Hospital, Cambridge, and Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Birmingham, UK.
Experience: Currently, he leads the Liver transplant Anaesthesia and Intensive care unit at the Global Health city, which is one of India’s leading liver transplant and hepatobiliary centers. He has got experience of managing more than 500 liver transplant recipients in the perioperative period. The team lead by him has done more than 450 liver transplants including 100 paediatric liver transplants, around 300 living donor liver transplants (LDLT) and around 150 deceased donor liver transplants (DDLT). His experience also includes perioperative management of auxiliary liver Tx, acute liver failure, combined organ transplants and Tx for complex and rare metabolic liver diseases in kids. He has also got experience of managing more than 300 complex hepatobiliary surgeries. He also heads the 24 bedded liver intensive care unit, which caters service to post operative care of liver transplant recipients, complex hepatobiliary cases, patients with chronic liver disease and acute liver failure patients. The liver transplant anaesthesia and intensive care unit gets visiting professionals from India and from many other countries for their training. He has given guidance in setting up liver transplant units in India and abroad.
- He has conducted India’s first CME on “Transplant Anaesthesia and Intensive Care” in Nov 2011 in Chennai. Organising secretary Master Class in Liver Diseases, Chennai 2014 which was attended by more than 500 delegates
- The prestigious TNJHA memorial- KP.Sensoria award by the Indian Society of Anesthesiologists has been presented to him for his work on a Continuous caudal block with tunneling of Epidural catheterâ€™, which is an innovative technique in the field of Regional Anaesthesia in Paediatrics in 2003.
- He is a co-author of two booklets and CD-ROMS on segmental epidural Anaesthesia and upper limb nerve blocks.
- He received gold medal from the Indian Society of Anaesthesiologists for best paper presentation at the state level.
